From Our Road Trip 2006 - BEST Landscape Photos

  • Crater Lake is a beautiful deep blue lake due to the fact that the only fill for the lake is the clean, clear snow and rainfall. The clouds form interesting, dark shadows on the surface of the lake. The location is at Merriam Point near the trail we found near the North Entrance of the Rim Drive, on the west end of the lake.   • Eileen's photo of the view from our Room 215 in the Crater Lake Lodge. We had an excellent view of Crater Lake (in the background), but we also had a good view of the patio restaurant directly below us. This actually turned out to be a mixed blessing because the patio was busy until late into the night and people were right below us on the patio drinking and laughing loudly. Then in the early morning, more people came out to the patio for breakfast and coffee and the noise started up again. Ah the joys of sleeping with the windows open!<br /> <br /> The Crater Lake Lodge was an excellent place to stay, comfortable, great views from the room, but the patio noise was not that great. Why did we have the windows open? Because the lodge does NOT have air conditioning!!! As they told us when we checked in, "the lodge does not have air conditioning or telephones to preserve the initial flavor of the original lodge as built in 1915". How quaint...
